BANGOR — Authorities say a small part broke off a single-engine plane and crashed through the roof of a Bangor home.
The part known as a piston wrist pin fell through the attic and sheetrock ceiling, ending up on the hardwood floor on June 12.
Fire officials tell the Bangor Daily News no one was hurt but damage was estimated at $5,000. Authorities did not identify the homeowner, who was home at the time.
The part was about 1-inch in diameter and 4 inches long. It connects the arm and head of a piston inside the engine’s cylinder.
Rick Eason, faculty adviser for the University Flying Club was in the Cessna 172 with the pilot at the time. He says they heard a loud bang and the plane started shaking. They landed safely.
