Thunderstorms that rolled through the state this afternoon knocked out power to about 1,200 Central Maine Power Co. customers, primarily in southern York County.

CMP said about 1,121 customers in York County and another 598 in Kennebec County were without power.

Smaller numbers of customers were reported without power in Oxford, Cumberland and Somerset counties.

A CMP spokesman said the company hopes to have power restored to most of the customers tonight, but noted the storm had only recently ended in York County and crews have not had time to assess the extent of the damage.
