HAMPTON BEACH, N.H. — Winning creations in the 12th Annual Master Sand Sculpting Competition in Hampton Beach, N.H., will remain on display through July 8 and will be lit for night viewing.

The sculptures from the contest, which ended Saturday, can also be seen online.

This year’s sculptures ranged from a griffon to an Ed Roth-inspired hot rod and a half underground piece which features a human ascending stairs to a castle in the sky.

The first place winner was a 12-foot tall sculpture titled “Continuum” by Carl Jara from Lyndhurst, Ohio. Jara wins a cash prize of $3,000 and a trip to the world championship. The sculptors carved over three days using 10 tons of sand.

Photos of the winning sculptures can be seen at www.hamptonbeach.org or www.facebook.com/HamptonNHBeach.
