MANCHESTER, N.H. — A New Hampshire race walker has high hopes heading into the Olympic trials this weekend.

Joanne Dow has been to the trials five times. She made the team in 2008. At that time, she was the oldest woman competing in track and field events, at age 44.

Now 48, Dow will be competing in a grueling 12.4-mile race this weekend in Oregon.

She tells WMUR-TV she’s racing against women that are her daughter’s age, but she just wants one more chance before retiring from the sport.

Dow has been coaching track and field at the University of New Hampshire when she’s not training. She’s also pursuing a master’s degree.
