Western Maine’s Seeds of Peace summer camp opened Wednesday for its 20th season. Located in Otisfield, the camp began the year’s first summer session with its traditional flag-raising ceremony. The camp brings together teenagers from countries that are in conflict in hopes of helping them move beyond deep-rooted hatreds. About 200 campers from Afghanistan, Egypt, India, Israel, Jordan, Pakistan, the Palestinian territories and the U.S. are attending this summer. More than 5,000 campers and educators from 27 countries have attended Seeds of Peace since its founding in 1993.
