KITTERY — A lift bridge between Maine and New Hampshire is undergoing repairs over the coming month.

The Maine Department of Transportation says the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge connecting Kittery and Portsmouth, N.H., over the Piscataqua River will close nightly for safety repairs starting the night of July 5th.

Maine DOT spokesman Ted Talbot says crews will install prefabricated steel barriers because of corroded guardrails along the entire length of the bridge. Repairs will continue through Aug. 1.

The nearby Interstate 95 bridge will remain open while the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge is shut down during the evenings and overnight hours. The bridges are getting heavier-than-normal use during demolition and replacement of the Memorial Bridge, the third bridge between Kittery and Portsmouth.
