Vignola Cinque Terre to host Spanish wine tasting July 12

Lee Skawinski, chef at Vignola Cinque Terre, and sommelier Chris Campbell will host a tasting of Spanish wines at 7:30 p.m. July 12.

Guests will be able to sample more than a dozen Spanish wines as Campbell explains the history of the wines and talks about the vineyards where they originated. Skawinski will be preparing food to pair with the wine, including suckling pig, Iberico ham, Winter Point oysters and a variety of Spanish tapas and cheeses.

The event will be held on the restaurant’s patio. The cost is $50 per person. To make a reservation, call 772-1330.

On the Marsh Bistro having Great Gatsby benefit party

If you just can’t wait for the movie adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” with Leonardo DiCaprio, you’re in luck. On the Marsh Bistro has announced that it is taking reservations for a Great Gatsby party on Sept. 15 that will benefit the food pantries of York County. Guests are expected to dress as if they were living during Prohibition times.

The evening will begin with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at 6 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. tented dinner in the meadow. There will be cash bars and dancing, with live music provided by Straight Lace.

Historical society’s supper includes expert-made beans

Savor a supper prepared by bean hole bean expert Maynard Stanley Jr. Saturday at the Camden-Rockport Historical Society’s historic Conway House complex on Route 1 just south of Hannaford.

Included are Maine yellow-eyed beans cooked underground, a Kirshner hot dog, coleslaw, biscuits with butter, pickles and access to a table full of homemade pies.

Tickets are $10; $8 for seniors and members; and $5 for children ages 6 to 12. Children under age 6 eat free. Call 236-2257.


Watershed Center holding its 18th annual Salad Days

The Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts will hold its 18th annual Salad Days 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 14.

Guests select one of 500 salad plates individually crafted by artist Adam Paulek, then fill their plate at the lunch buffet. In addition to food, the event includes live music by Jerks of Grass and an annual invitational pottery sale.

The Watershed campus opens at 10 a.m., plate selection starts at 11, and the lunch buffet begins at 11:30. The pottery sale, music, kids’ activities, a raffle and open artists’ studios continue until 3 p.m.

Funds raised by Salad Days support the center’s outreach programs, such as the Mudmobile, a clay studio on wheels that travels to schools and community centers around the state.

Admission to Salad Days is $30, but admission to the pottery sale only is free.
