LEWISTON — Officials say 13 families have been displaced by a fire in downtown Lewiston that raced through three buildings.

The buildings caught fire shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday in the close quarters of Little Canada, a neighborhood packed with tenements that once served workers in the city’s mills.

Deputy City Administrator Phil Nadeau said the fire burned a 12-unit, four-story apartment building as well as a single-family structure next door and an adjacent four-unit apartment building that was vacant and had been condemned by the city.

No injuries have been reported.

Fire Captain Wallace Veilleux says the fire was put out by 5 p.m.

He says firefighters will monitor the building for much of the night.

Officials are investigating to determine a cause.
