PORTLAND — The Maine Department of Transportation says ferry service is getting back to normal following a mechanical problem at the ferry terminal in Lincolnville.

The transfer bridge malfunctioned on Tuesday, making it impossible for people to move between the ferry and the terminal. Because of the problem, daily ferry schedule had to be altered with the Margaret Chase Smith operating between Rockland and Isleboro instead of Lincolnville and Islesboro.

Maine State Ferry Service Manager Jim MacLeod said most runs will be operating normally today.

Two exceptions are that the 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. runs from Lincolnville to Isleboro, which are being canceled to allow workers to refuel the ferry.
