GRAY — Much of the Northeast continues to bake but northern New England is escaping the oppressive heat.

Temperatures of more than 100 degrees are forecast Saturday in Philadelphia and extreme heat continues across the mid-Atlantic, where storms caused massive power outages.

But cloud cover is keeping things relatively cool in northern New England.

Stacie Haynes of the National Weather Service says the temperatures are reaching only the mid-80s in Maine and New Hampshire as cloud cover keeps the temperature down. It’s also cool in Vermont, where many locations are in the 70s.
