SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. — A hang glider had to be rescued after losing control and getting stuck 25 feet up in a tree at a state park in western Massachusetts.

Authorities say the man tripped just as he took off Sunday, went into a spin and plunged into the tree while hang gliding at Joseph Allen Skinner State Park in South Hadley.

About 15 firefighters from South Hadley and several surrounding towns helped get the man out of the tree using ropes.

He was not hurt and hiked out of the woods with his rescuers.

Rescuers brought an all-terrain vehicle to get to the accident site but the woods were so thick firefighters had to hike into the area.

The hang glider’s’ name was not released.
