The latest campaign finance filing by Gov. Paul LePage shows construction, gravel and trucking companies are supporting the governor’s 2014 re-election bid.

The LePage campaign showed $30,950 in cash donations during the semi-annual filing, bringing his total contributions over $82,070.

The latest filing is dominated by donations from employees and owners of construction and gravel companies like Great Falls Construction, Hall Equipment Co., Wyman & Simpson, Gorham Sand & Gravel, Pre-Cast and R.J. Grondin & Sons. Trucking companies like Story Brothers and R.C. Moore are also backing LePage. 

The timing of the donations from concrete and gravel company employees followed the April 26 annual banquet of the Maine Aggregate Association, the trade group for concrete and gravel companies. LePage was guest speaker at the banquet, which was closed to the media.  

Former GOP Gov. John McKernan has also contributed to the LePage campaign. 

There’s debate among Maine political junkies over whether Gov. Paul LePage will run in 2014. Nonetheless, the governor’s re-election campaign is clearly operating as if LePage is seeking a second term.

The campaign spent $10,160 during the last reporting period, the bulk of which was directed to fundraising activities. The campaign paid Cynthia Faulkner $6,000 for fundraising consulting.

Faulkner was employed for one year as the finance director for then Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. She was also the campaign manager for U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe in 2000 and a staffer for former U.S. Sen. William Cohen.
