FAIRFIELD — A woman involved in a recent crash at Nye’s Corner died Sunday of her injuries.

Anne Gagnon, 75, of Waterville, last month drove into the path of a truck driven by C.J. Harvey, 34, of Canaan, at the intersection of Ohio Hill Road and U.S. Route 201, according to police. Both were treated at MaineGeneral Medical Center’s Thayer Campus in Waterville.

Gagnon’s injuries had initially been described as non life-threatening, but her daughter Carol Gagnon, 55, of Hyannis, Mass., said the injuries were serious. Anne Gagnon broke her neck in three places, and her family chose to withdraw life support Sunday after complications arose from surgery.

Carol Gagnon said her mother was vivacious, especially considering her age.

“This is not someone who sat in a chair watching TV. Half the time you would call her, she would be on her way out,” her eldest daughter recalled. “This was quite a shock. We were not ready to let her go. My heart is broken and I’m going to miss her forever.”

Nye’s Corner has a reputation for serious crashes, but data from the Maine Department of Transportation shows there are fewer crashes at the intersection than average for a location of its type. Duane Brunnell, an analysis manager at the department, said areas that have eight or more crashes during a three-year period are considered high-crash locations. Nyes Corner doesn’t qualify. There were two crashes between 2009 and 2011, and 14 crashes since 2003, Brunnell said last month.

Gagnon’s sister, Lucille Bois, 74, of Fairfield, said, however, “I think that’s a very dangerous intersection.”

Bois said the intersection could benefit from a flashing yellow light, like the one at Western Avenue and Ridge Road.

The accident happened about 11 a.m. July 26. Gagnon had driven east on Ohio Hill Road, stopped at the intersection with U.S. 201 and then drove into the path of Harvey’s truck, according to the police report. The truck left the road and tipped on its side.

Gagnon and her former husband, Joe Gagnon, were co-owners of Hudson Furniture Co., in Hudson, N.H. After relocating to Waterville, she became a member of the Red Hat Society and the Newcomers Club. Her services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the home of Lucille and William Bois, 5 Sanderson Drive.
