PORTLAND — The state medical examiner has identified the skeletal remains found last weekend as a 31-year-old homeless woman.

An autopsy this week uncovered no signs of foul play but police and the Medical Examiner’s Office continue to research the case to determine how the woman came to be in that area, police said. The medical examiner did not determine a cause of death.

Police are not releasing the woman’s name until relatives have been notified, police said.

A man picking wild blueberries discovered the bones Saturday afternoon about 60 yards off a trail that runs from Hutchins Drive. There was no identification with the remains but investigators were able to discern a medical condition as well as other items found with the remains that helped confirm the identity.
