DAMARISCOTTA — The Firehouse Center for the Falcon Foundation hosts an exhibition through Sept. 15 featuring the paintings of Lois Dodd and 40 of her students over the years.

“Lois Dodd and Her Students” illustrates Dodd’s high artistic standards as well as her dedication to her students, said Firehouse curator David Dewey.

While the work in the show is diverse, it is unified in its “artistic integrity and strength of her work and thought, an important characteristic of a good teacher,” Dewey writes. “The success of the work and the careers of these artists bear testimony to the strength of Lois’ studio work, her character, teaching ability and generous unfailing support.”

In addition to Dodd, among those with work in this show are Janice Kasper, Janet Manyon, Bill Christine, Jeff Reed, Pico Reinoso, Carolyn Judson and Magda Vitale.

Christine writes, “While studying at Brooklyn College, my car was stolen and it was increasingly difficult for me to get to classes, as I was commuting from a distance. Lois most graciously had us meet at her house where she even cooked me lunch. We talked and ate outside on her rooftop patio while she encouraged me to keep going.”

The Firehouse Center for the Falcon Foundation is at 5 Bristol Road, Damariscotta. The gallery is open 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
