Twenty Maine Republican delegates are still waiting to hear if they’ll make the trip to the national convention in Tampa. However, the committee that will make that decision has already ruled on a similar challenge in Louisiana.  

The Republican National Committee’s Committee on Contests last week sided with Louisiana GOP over Ron Paul supporters. It’s unclear if the decision will foreshadow the pending challenge to Paul delegates in Maine. 

In Maine, two Republicans are contesting the Paul delegates, claiming that the activists violated procedural rules during the GOP state convention. In Louisiana, the Paul campaign protested that the party changed its convention rules in order to prevent the election of Paul delegates.

The RNC Contest Committee ruled otherwise, prompting the ire of the Paul campaign.

"The LAGOP executive committee again submitted false information in an attempt to mislead their fellow Republicans," Charlie Davis, who led the Paul campaign in Louisiana, told NOLA.com. "I’m not really surprised by the preliminary ruling and I’m looking forward to finally presenting our case in Tampa. The wheels of justice move slow and I remain hopeful that when all the facts are presented the truth will win out."

Ted Kwong, a spokesman for the RNC, told the Press Herald Monday that he didn’t expect the contest committee to rule on the Maine challenge until the week before the Aug. 27 convention. 

Last week Gov. Paul LePage told conservative radio host Ray Richardson that he would not attend the Tampa convention if the Maine delegates weren’t seated.
