As a summer resident and native, there is nothing I’d like better than to take your suggestion and eat Maine lobster (“Our View: Mainers should buy more lobsters now,” Aug. 9).

I have great sympathy for the low price that lobstermen are getting and would very much like to help.

But eating more lobster only helps the middleman’s profit. I recently had a lobster roll at Ocean House Pizza, and the owner told me his cost had actually gone up to $24 per pound! Maybe the tourists don’t, but we Mainers do care about the price. If there were less greed between the catch and our mouths, we’d buy more.
