BANGOR — Auburn, Mass., scored eight runs in the first inning and tacked on three in the second for an 11-0, five-inning victory against Hampden/Newburgh in pool play Tuesday at the Senior League World Series at Mansfield Stadium.

Auburn is 1-1 in the opening round, where each team plays four games in its pool. Maine is 1-2.

Auburn scored all of its runs in the first with two outs, capped by a two-run single by Tyler Desjardins.

Joshua Boucher pitched the first two innings, and Ryan Kozlowski gave up singles to Matt Palmer and Andrew Elston as Maine loaded the bases in each of his two innings of relief.

Reliever Lincoln Bois got the first two outs of the fifth on grounders and the other on a pop out after Matt Stacey reached on an error.

ITALY 2, NEW ZEALAND 0: Fabio Ricco Panciroli and Matteo Bocchi combined on a four-hitter for Emilia, Italy (1-1), which scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings against Auckland, New Zealand (0-3).

 

GUATEMALA 6, GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. 1: Fabian Vizcaino had two hits and scored twice, Juan Diego Montes drove in two runs and Alejandro Amezquita pitched five strong innings for Guatemala City (2-0) against Grand Rapids (2-1).

 

GREATER WEST MELBOURNE, FLA. 2, HOUSTON 0: Florida (1-1) scored two unearned runs in the third inning and held Houston (2-1) to two hits.

Matt Doran hit an RBI single and Florida got the other run on an infield error.
