STONINGTON – This year marks the centennial of the Stonington Opera House, as well as the 100th anniversary of “Renascence,” one of the most famous and award-winning poems by Maine poet Edna St. Vincent Millay. In celebration of this shared milestone, Opera House Arts brings an original musical production, “The Millay Sisters: A Cabaret,” to its Burnt Cove Church venue for a one-night only performance at 7 p.m. Thursday.

From a family of women in Camden to the bohemian luminaries in Greenwich Village, the poet and playwright sped through the first half of the 20th century burning candles at both ends. Creating a string of lovers and a Pulitzer Prize for 1912’s “Renascence” in her wake, Millay, who insisted on being called Vincent, eclipsed the lives of her two sisters. Weaving in tunes from 1900 through the Jazz Age, “The Millay Sisters” presents the famous one, the charming one, and the one they left behind.

Fans of Opera House Arts Shakespeare in Stonington series will recognize featured actors Rachel Murdy and Margi Sharp Douglas. “The Millay Sisters” is directed by Joan Jubett, with musical direction and accompaniment by Peter Szep, both directors for OHA’s production of “Burt Dow, Deep Water Man.”
