BRUNSWICK

Nighttime traffic along Interstate 295 between Freeport and Brunswick will narrow to one lane in each direction until Wednesday morning, while the roadway is resurfaced.

Work is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and continue until 6 a.m. to patch and repair bare spots on both north- and southbound sides. The exit 22 off- and exit 24 on-ramps will be closed but will reopen by 6 a.m., according to Maine Department of Transportation spokesman Ted Talbot.

The project, being done by Pike Industries of Lewiston, is the last of the state’s major paving work scheduled for 2012. It’s a continuation of work begun a year ago but postponed when road crews ran out of material. Regional asphalt manufacturers shut down their plants every fall, which led to the shortfall and caused the delay.

Overnight speed limits through the work area will drop to 55 miles per hour.
