WORCESTER, Mass. — A Barre woman accused of giving her 69-year-old mother heroin instead of her prescribed medicine remains behind bars after a judge refused to reduce her $2,500 bail.

Lisa Gazaille went before a judge Wednesday to seek bail reduction to $500. The 47-year-old woman’s lawyer told the judge that the confession she allegedly gave police was questionable and said she would live with a friend if released.

Prosecutors pointed out that Gazaille was wanted on a default warrant when arrested earlier this month.

The Telegram & Gazette reports that police responded to her mother’s home after the 69-year-old woman called to say she might have been given the wrong medication.

Gazaille allegedly told police she gave her mother heroin orally, telling the older woman it was crushed oxycodone.
