ORONO — Hockey star Steve Kariya is among the five former University of Maine student-athletes who will be inducted into the 2012 Sports Hall of Fame.

Kariya was a 1999 Hobey Baker award finalist who led Maine to its second NCAA national championship in men’s ice hockey that year.

The other new hall-of-famers are women’s basketball standout and 2004-05 America East Player of the Year Kim Corbitt, and Charlie Goddard, a member of the All-Yankee Conference Basketball First Team in 1949-50.

Also inducted are track and field record-holder Richard Nason and Michelle Puls, America East Softball Player of the Year in 1997 and 1998.

The selections were announced Monday. The group will be inducted in a ceremony at Orono on Friday, Sept. 28.
