SACO — A Saco man on probation for a fatal hit-and-run accident in 2008 was arrested during the weekend on a drunken-driving charge.

Jason Brooks, 30, was charged early Sunday morning after police in Biddeford issued an alert that Brooks was believed to be intoxicated and driving a maroon pickup truck.

A Saco police officer parked and waited near the Elm Street bridge. Brooks crossed into Saco, then reversed course back into Biddeford, said Deputy Police Chief Jeff Holland.

The officer stopped Brooks for a loud exhaust and a faulty brake light, then administered a field sobriety test, leading to the drunken-driving charge, Holland said.

Brooks pleaded guilty in 2010 to running down and killing Deborah Archer, 43, a mother of six, on Route 9 in Berwick. He was sentenced to two years in prison and two years of probation.

There was no allegation that Brooks had been drinking before the fatal crash.
