BIDDEFORD — The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to seize a convicted murderer’s home by eminent domain and tear it down.

Mayor Alan Casavant said the council voted 8-0 to authorize eminent domain proceedings against Rory Holland, the owner of the home at 58 South St.

Holland was convicted of two counts of murder in late 2010 and given two life sentences. The murders of Derek and Gage Green, who were brothers, happened in 2009 on the sidewalk and street in front of Holland’s home.

The house was dilapidated even when Holland lived there.

Casavant said the city will acquire the home for $30,000 – its current appraised value. He said he doubts Holland will ever see any of the money because the brothers’ family has a wrongful-death lawsuit pending against Holland.

The home will be demolished and become part of an existing small neighborhood park.
