To the editor:

I am writing in enthusiastic support of Angus King for Senate.

Angus is honest, straightforward, clear-thinking, articulate and solutions-oriented — just the kind of leader the country desperately needs and Maine is uniquely able to provide.

Electing Angus King fits right into Maine’s tradition of sending exceptional leaders to the U.S. Senate.

Like Margaret Chase Smith, he is courageous and able to speak truth to power eloquently and compellingly.

Like George Mitchell, he is a patient listener who is able to hear and understand all sides of an issue and help competing interests find solutions that take the needs of all parties into account.

Like Bill Cohen, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, he has a proven record of working with all political parties to find solutions to problems — he did it in Augusta, and he can do it in Washington.

I share Angus’s frustration at the paralysis in Washington, especially when solutions to so many serious problems are right at hand if only our leaders would act more like grown-ups and work together to solve them. I have no doubt that Angus has the grit, the intelligence, the patience and the political skills to help Congress get back to doing the people’s work, and doing it well, and I am proud to cast my vote for him on Nov. 6.
