BRUNSWICK

Look for purple this month, in hopes of preventing domestic violence.

October is National Domestic Violence Prevention Month. Family Crisis Services in Portland is partnering with businesses along Maine Street in Brunswick for its “Glowing Purple” project. For the first two weeks of October, businesses will display purple lights in their shop windows to remind passersby of the dangers of domestic violence and family abuse.

Tuesday, Oct. 16, will be the first annual “Color ME Purple” event throughout Cumberland County. Jen LaChance Sibley, the crisis shelter’s Outreach Services director, encourages everyone to don a piece of purple clothing that day to “take a stand” against abuse.

For more information or to report incidents of abuse, contact Family Crisis Services at 721-0199 or www.familycrisis.org. A 24-hour hotline is available at (866) 834-4357.
