PORTLAND — The City Council took less than 30 minutes Monday night to take care of business.
In a brief agenda, the council approved the appointment of 22 wardens and clerks to the city voting wards; established polling times for Election Day, Nov. 6; and approved celebrations planned for Veterans Day, Nov. 11, and for the Portland Downtown District’s Light Up Your Holidays Festival.
The festival takes place on Fridays and weekends beginning Nov. 23, when the annual tree-lighting ceremony in Monument Square takes place.
The council also approved the purchase of “standby” bonds required by the terms of city pension bonds issued in 2001. The purchase was a “purely administrative” function, said Councilor John Anton, who heads the council’s Finance Committee.
Mayor Michael Brennan also proclaimed Officer Mark Keller as the city’s Police Officer of the Month for August.
The council adjourned at 7:25 p.m. It meets next on Monday, Oct. 15.
