NASHVILLE, TN — Arlene Elizabeth Steeves Pond, 91, a long time resident of Bath, passed away September 14, 2012 at the home of her daughter Tami surrounded by her two loving daughters and several of her grandchildren. Arlene was born on February 10, 1921 to Frank Steeves and Mellie Hopkins at her parent’s home in Watertown, Massachusetts. She grew up in Pittsfield, Maine. Her mom died when she was 13 and her Grammie Whitney raised her while her father worked. She graduated from Maine Central Institute in 1940. Arlene was truly a member of the Greatest Generation. She told many stories of working in the woolen mills when she was younger to stories of World War II, rationing and supporting the war efforts.

Arlene married Lloyd Pond on December 19, 1942 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. They resided in Maine after World War II and moved to Bath in the 1950’s. They had two daughters Tami Miller and Cheryl Peaslee. Arlene was a stay at home mom then worked as a secretary at Fisher Mitchell School for many years. In her last 20 years she had the best of both worlds – she lived with her daughter Tami in the winter in Tennessee and with her daughter Cheryl in Bath in the summer. She loved to travel and loved to fly and was always excited when she went on adventures. She was a former parishioner of St Mary’s Church in Bath and an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.

Arlene was the epitome of a mother and was what every mother should aspire to. She loved family more than anything in the world and dedicated her life to loving her daughters, son-inlaws, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always had a smile ready, open arms for a hug and kind words to share. Her love and generosity will remain forever in the hearts of her family.

Arlene was predeceased by her grandson, Patrick Peaslee, her sister Eleanor Santora and brother Frank Steeves.

She is survived by her brother Eugene Steeves, her daughters Tami Miller and Cheryl Peaslee, her son-inlaws Timothy Peaslee and Andrew Miller, her grandchildren, Matt Fitch and his wife Diana, and Ryan Fitch, Daniel Miller and Andrew Miller, Barrett Peaslee and Caitlyn Peaslee ; her great grandchildren, Brooks Peaslee, Mason Peaslee, Riley Fitch and Lily Fitch as well as many nieces, nephews, inlaws and relatives.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Mary’s Church of All Saints Parish in Bath at 10:00 on Friday, October 12th. Interment will occur immediately after Mass at Oak Grove Cemetery.
