PORTLAND — A Scarborough man has been indicted by a Cumberland County grand jury on two counts of Class C unlawful sexual contact related to incidents 10 years ago.

David C. Dougherty, 45, was named in the indictment handed up last Friday. An indictment is a finding that enough evidence exists to prosecute, not a finding of guilt.

Dougherty was arrested by Gorham police officers Sept. 24 after turning himself in. Gorham Police Sgt. Dana Thompson said Dougherty was charged with abusing a 12-year-old male in 2002 at Wassamki Springs Campground.

Thompson said Dougherty knew his alleged victim, who came forward in April to report the incidents.
