BANGOR — The Bangor City Council is going on record in support of next month’s referendum seeking to legalize same-sex marriage in Maine.

The council unanimously adopted a resolution Wednesday night expressing support for the Nov. 6 ballot question.

The Maine Legislature in 2009 legalized same-sex marriage, but voters later that year overturned the law 53 percent to 47 percent.

Maine is one of four states with gay-marriage referendums on their ballots next month.
