ELIZABETH FOSTER as Princess Aurora in Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine’s production of “Sleeping Beauty.”

PORTLAND — The Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine will perform “Sleeping Beauty” for two consecutive weekends, beginning Friday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m.

The play features actors ages 8 to 13 from all over Maine and audiences of all ages are welcome.

A news release describes the show as follows:

An entire kingdom celebrates the birth of a new princess, but one fairy doesn’t receive her invitation to the party. Her revenge? A spindle, an evil spell and 100 years of sleep. The Museum and Theatre presents an original, adventurous take on Charles Perrault’s classic tale, “Sleeping Beauty.”

To help families make connections between literacy and live performance, a special book club event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, with support from Target.

Participants who read the book at home can answer a trivia question to earn one free child’s ticket with a paid adult ticket. They will watch a performance of “Sleeping Beauty” then participate in a book-based movement or art activity. Interested families must register by Oct. 19 to be eligible. Visit kitetails.org for details.

Shows will take place Oct. 19, 20 and 28 at 4 p.m., Oct. 21 and 27, at 1:30 and 4 p.m., and Oct. 26 at 4 and 6 p.m.

Advance reservations are encouraged. Tickets can be reserved at the front desk, 142 Free St., by calling 828-1234 ext. 231, or at kitetails.org.
