The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has released its third ad attacking Angus King, the independent candidate for the U.S. Senate.

The new 30-second spot hits familiar notes — King’s fiscal management — and uses the same tone from its previous ads (fire up the harpsichord!). However, it also drops a subtle, sympathetic reference to Gov. John Baldacci that is designed to resonate with Democratic voters who may be wavering between King and Democratic candidate Cynthia Dill.

It’s not yet clear how large the U.S. Chamber ad buy is, but given the group’s previous purchases, it’s probably significant.

On a related note: I’m looking for copies of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee ads. Despite repeated — and I do mean repeated — requests, the DSCC has refused to send the ads or post them on its YouTube channel (The DSCC counterpart, the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee doesn’t post all of its ads, but has thus far forwarded copies upon request). Just a guess, but that’s probably because the DSCC doesn’t want to promote the fact that it’s running ads in a state where it has thus far refused to endorse the Democratic candidate, Dill. Nonetheless, the Press Herald is still interested in reviewing the ads and putting them through the PPH Truth Test.
