BRUNSWICK — A Maine man sought in connection with a late-September stabbing in Brunswick was arrested in California Oct. 12.
Police said Jamie Mondragon, 31, of Auburn, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Fresno, Calif., after sources helped law enforcement officers determine his whereabouts.
Mondragon allegedly fled the scene of an early morning stabbing on Sept. 30 near an apartment at 9 Perryman Drive. The victim was a 25-year-old woman who sustained multiple stab wounds while three children were inside the apartment.
The woman’s wounds were not life threatening, and she was reported in stable condition later that day.
Brunswick Deputy Police Chief Marc Hagan said he could not disclose how Mondragon ended up more than 3,000 miles away from the scene of the crime, although the arrest was coordinated by the local police department, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Maine Violent Offender Task Force.
Mondragon was arrested on two warrants for aggravated assault, one warrant for reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, and a charge of probation violation, Hagan said.
He was being held at the Fresno County Jail pending extradition to Maine, the deputy said.
