OXFORD (AP) — The Oxford Plains Speedway is being sold to a local promoter and former racer.

Owner Bill Ryan Jr. announced Sunday that he will sell the facility to Tom Mayberry, founder and promoter of the Pro All Star Series, a prominent New England racing tour. Mayberry was also a racer at the speedway.

Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Mayberry says he wants to make the speedway into a multi-use facility that will host more major events, including monster truck and motocross shows.

He also hopes to bring back racing with larger, faster cars.

Ryan, part owner of the Maine Red Claws basketball team, bought partial ownership of the speedway in 1998 and took over completely in 2000.
