To the Editor:

I’m writing in support of Jennifer DeChant as representative from Bath’s District 62 in the Maine House.

Bath is very fortunate to have a candidate as knowledgeable and caring as Jennifer to take Mike Clarke’s place.

I have gotten to know Jennifer over the last few years and have been deeply impressed with the broad scope of her activities for the city. She has served Bath as a member of both the Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals, as well as on the Chocolate Church Arts Center Board of Directors.

Her involvement extends to active participation with Main Street Bath, Bath Heritage Days, the United Way of Midcoast Maine, Bath Sunrise Rotary, and as a member of Phippsburg Sportsmen’s Association and Maine Rural Partners.

Beyond her immediate commitment to Bath, she has served the state with the Maine Department of Economic Development, with the nonprofit development organization Coastal Enterprises Inc., and as a policy and constituent relations representative for the Office of the Speaker of the House. She has also cultivated a business career, working for Five County Credit Union and Sea Bags, a small business in Mid-coast Maine.

As the mother of two schoolaged children, Jennifer is committed to solving the difficulties faced by our school system. Further, she will be leveraging her experience in government and the private sector to build opportunities for small businesses, just as she has done in the past with organizations like Coastal Enterprises.

We need to be moving forward with ideas and programs that build rather than simply tear down. To that end, Jennifer DeChant is the person we need to elect.
