BRUNSWICK

A base layer of asphalt will be laid on Stanwood Street later this week, and new granite curbing is scheduled to be installed on Monday, Oct. 22.

Ray Labbe & Sons, the contractor rebuilding the Pleasant and Stanwood streets intersection, will install a two-inch-thick layer of binder paving by the end of the week, according to public works director John Foster.

Binder paving is the thicker, rougher “strength” layer of asphalt that provides the base for thinner, smoother surface, or “finish” paving.

After the new curbing is installed, the road likely will be partially reopened to vehicle traffic during the day. Work to widen the intersection, install new underground utilities, and add a northbound lane is expected to be finished by Nov. 2.
