BRUNSWICK – Lawrence High scored 21 points in the third quarter Saturday night on the way to a 34-7 victory against Brunswick in an Eastern Class A football game.

Lawrence (8-0) clinched home field throughout the playoffs.

“We definitely felt like we had something to prove,” said Spencer Carey, who ran for the Bulldogs’ first touchdown and had an interception. “Brunswick is a great team.”

The Dragons (6-2) appeared to have momentum heading into the second half.

Jared Jensen ran 65 yards for a touchdown with four seconds left in the second quarter to cut Lawrence’s lead to 13-7, but Lawrence forced the Dragons three and out on the first possession of the third quarter.

“We knew they would have momentum with that score. We just came out in the second half focused,” Carey said.

Lawrence scored on three consecutive possessions in the third quarter.

Jake Doolan ran 29 yards to make it 20-7, then recovered a fumble near midfield and his twin brother, Josh, ran 54 yards for a score and a 27-7 lead.

Josh Doolan scored again, on a 4-yard run with 2:18 left in the quarter to make it 34-7.

“They executed pretty well. We missed a tackle here, a block there,” Brunswick Coach Dan Cooper said. “When they get it going, they’re (a heck) of a football team.”

Lawrence took a 7-0 lead with 6:39 left in the half on a 12-yard quarterback draw by Carey.

“That’s a new play we put in. The other time we ran it, it went for a 50-yard touchdown. It’s been a pretty successful play,” Carey said.

Anthony Sementelli broke a 45-yard touchdown run with 18.9 seconds left in the half to make it 13-0, but Jensen, the league’s leading rusher, broke free on the next play and went 65 yards. Jensen finished with 133 yards on 24 carries.

“The (defensive) line did a great job getting penetration, the linebackers filled the gaps, and the secondary was there to clean it up,” Carey said.

Sementelli had 93 yards on 15 carries. Josh Doolan added 66 yards on eight carries.
