SCARBOROUGH — Sophomore Molly Nicholson scored the game’s only goal in the second half as top-ranked Lisbon High defeated No. 2 North Yarmouth Academy 1-0 in the Western Class C field hockey championship game Tuesday afternoon.

The Greyhounds’ victory ended North Yarmouth’s two-year reign as Class C state champion and four-year reign as the regional champion.

“I can’t even tell you what this means for the program,” said Lisbon coach Julie Wescott.

Lisbon (16-0-1) dominated the game statistically and territorially on Scarborough’s artificial surface. The Greyhounds had a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners and 9-2 in shots.

Nicholson got the game’s only goal with 18:57 left in the second half. Lisbon’s Hanna Jordan carried the ball on the left side and made a long hit into the circle, where the ball was deflected by an NYA defender. The ball went right to Nicholson, who one-timed it into the net.
