SOUTH PORTLAND – Unofficial results in South Portland City Council race have newcomer Melissa Linscott beating incumbent Rosemarie De Angelis, 7,144-5,514.

City voters backed same-sex marriage 9,771-4,446, and said yes to each of the four statewide bond issues.

In other results, city residents voted for President Barack Obama over Mitt Romney (9,956-4,104). Angus King, projected as the statewide winner of the U.S. Senate race, won in South Portland as well, with 8,304 votes, beating Republican Charlie Summers (3,073) and Democrat Cynthia Dill (2,463).

In the U.S. House of Representatives race in Congressional District 1, city voters chose Democrat Chellie Pingree over Republican Jon Courtney, 10,338-3,638.
