WORCESTER, Mass. – Phil Beans scored 19 points and took down eight rebounds to lead Holy Cross to a 57-54 victory against Maine in the Crusaders’ home opener Wednesday night.

Jordan Stevens contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Crusaders (3-1), members of the Patriot League. Dave Dudzinski added 10 points and nine rebounds for Holy Cross, which leads the series 7-1.

Alasdair Frazier led the Black Bears (0-2) with 21 points and 15 rebounds, and Xavier Pollard chipped in with 14 points and eight rebounds for Maine, of the America East Conference.

Both teams shot poorly, with Holy Cross hitting only 29 percent (18 of 62) from the field to Maine’s 29.2 percent (19 of 65). The poor shooting led to a lot of rebounds, with Maine holding a 48-44 advantage.

(10) FLORIDA 74, (22) WISCONSIN 56: Erik Murphy tied a career-high with 24 points just days after dealing with an illness, and the Gators beat the Badgers.

Murphy made all 10 of his shots, including two from 3-point range, as the short-handed Gators enjoyed a double-digit lead most of the night. He also had seven rebounds.

Mike Rosario added 15 points, four rebounds and four assists for Florida (2-0), and Kenny Boynton chipped in 10 points.

Sam Dekker and Jared Berggren had 11 points apiece for Wisconsin (1-1).

The Gators, playing without point guard Scottie Wilbekin (suspension) and forward Casey Prather (concussion), essentially won the game with fast starts in both halves. Florida scored the first nine points of the game and the first seven after intermission.

(15) CREIGHTON 77, UAB 60: Josh Jones scored all 18 of his points in the second half to compensate for Doug McDermott’s quiet night in the Bluejays (2-0) victory in Omaha.

McDermott, the returning first-team All-American, got into early foul trouble and finished with five points. He came in having scored in double figures in 37 straight games.

The Blazers fall to 1-1.

(10) GEORGIA 66, PRESBYTERIAN 38: Jasmine Hassell scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the 2-0 Bulldogs’ rout in Athens, Ga. Presbyterian (1-1) was trying to gets its second upset win in its first season as a certified Division I team. The Blue Hose opened the season with a 49-46 win at Clemson on Sunday.

NORTH CAROLINA 63, (25) GEORGETOWN 48: Brittany Roundtree knocked down six 3-pointers en route to 22 points and Krista Gross grabbed 15 rebounds as the Tar Heels (3-0) defeated the Hoyas (2-1). Megan Buckland added 13 points for the Tar Heels, who improved to 7-0 in the Preseason WNIT after winning the tournament in 2008.

Sugar Rodgers, who entered the game averaging 28 points, finished with 22 points but shot just 6 of 24 field-goal attempts. She became the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,886 points, passing Kris Witfil, who finished with 1,885.

(9) PENN STATE 63, (16) TEXAS A&M 58: Alex Bentley scored 21 points and Maggie Lucas added 18 to help the Lions (2-0) overcome the Aggies (0-2). Junior center Kelsey Bone led the Aggies with 16 points and 15 rebounds, but had two turnovers in the final 58 seconds. Karla Gilbert added 10 points for Texas A&M, which lost its opener to Louisville.

The Aggies finished with 23 turnovers after having only nine at the half. Penn State had 14 turnovers at the break but finished with 19.

UCLA 86, (11) OKLAHOMA 80: Thea Lemberger scored 18 points as the Bruins upset the Sooners in Norman, Okla. Lemberger was 7 of 12 from the field for UCLA (2-0). She had three rebounds, two assists and a steal. Alyssia Brewer scored 15 points and snagged 16 rebounds. Markel Walker added 16 points and Jasmine Dixon had 11.
