WESTERN CONNECTICUT STATE 69, BATES 62: Molly Brown’s layup and 3-pointer brought Bates within 66-62 with less than a minute to play, but the Colonials held on at the Salem State Tip-Off tournament in Salem, Mass.

SOUTHERN MAINE 74, RIVIER 49: Jordan Grant and Nash Biliew each had 15 points to lead the Huskies (2-0) over Rivier (0-2) in the final of the UMass-Dartmouth Tip-Off Classic in North Dartmouth, Mass.

ST. JOSEPH’S 71, UM-MACHIAS 43: Nicolette Kapothanasis hit three 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 14 points to lead the Monks (1-0) to a win at Standish.

UNE 46, WELLESLEY 43: Lauren Hayden sank three free throws as the University of New England scored the last seven points of its season opener at the Williams College tournament in Williamstown, Mass.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

BROWN 70, MAINE 68: Rafael Maia scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help Brown (1-1) hold off Maine (0-2) at Orono.

Justin Edwards led the Black Bears with 14 points, while Alasdair Fraser had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

BOWDOIN 72, WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 63: Keegan Pieri scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds, and Bryan Hurley added 11 points and 10 assists as the Polar Bears (1-1) won third place in the Eastern Connecticut State Tip-Off Tournament at Willimantic, Conn.

UM-FARMINGTON 60, UNE 58: Garret Clemer finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Andrew Dickey added 11 points and 10 rebounds to lift the Beavers (2-0) at the Charlie Ryan Classic at Waterville.

BATES 66, EMERSON 53: The Bobcats (2-0) erased an early 10-point deficit to beat the Lions (1-1) in the championship game of the Bates Tipoff Tournament at Lewiston.

Bates was led by Ed Bogdanovich, who finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds and was named the tournament MVP.

SOUTHERN MAINE 70, MAINE MARITIME 47: Alex Kee scored a game-high 14 points as the Huskies cruised at the Star City Classic in Presque Isle.

SOUTHERN MAINE C.C. 96, ST. JOSEPH’S (VERMONT) 77: Emmanuel Donalson scored 17 points and Mike Harmon added 16 as the Seawolves (9-1, 5-0) won at South Portland.

COLBY 74, WENTWORTH 32: John Gallego came off the bench to score nine points in the second half, and Chris Hudnut eight, as Colby (1-0) used its reserves to beat the Leopards (0-1) in the Babson Tip-Off tournament in Babson Park, Mass.

WILLIAMS 3, COLBY 2: Sean Dougherty’s 35 saves helped Williams (1-1) hold on for a NESCAC victory in Waterville.

The Mules (0-2) got goals from Brendan Cosgrove and Scott Harff, while goalie Jordan Nathan made 23 saves.
