Freeport holding preseason info night Thursday

Freeport High School is hosting a “Preseason Informational Night,” Thursday at 7:00 p.m. This night is specifically designed for parents and students. It is an opportunity for to have your questions answered, meet the coaching staff and hear directly from them regarding team/parent expectations. For parents, this is an opportunity to become an active participant in your child’s high school education. This is also an opportunity for parents and individual Sport Booster groups to meet, organize and make final arrangements for the winter season. The information night will begin in the high school auditorium, and finish with individual team breakout rooms.

Freeport coaching openings

RSU5 has several winter and spring coach openings. At Freeport High School, vacancies include a boys’ basketball first team, an Alpine head coach, a Nordic head coach and a Nordic assistant. Freeport Middle School seeks an Alpine ski coach and two boys’ and two girls’ lacrosse coaches. Durham Community School has an opening for boys’ “B” basketball. FMI, sickelsc@rsu5.org.

Local girls have strong first college seasons

Falmouth’s Megan Fortier was the lone first-year player named to the NESCAC field hockey all-conference team. Fortier was named to the second team after leading Colby with seven goals and six assists. Fortier will also play ice hockey at Colby this winter. Cumberland’s Kylie Dalbec scored 12 goals and added 10 assists at Anna Maria and was named NECC field hockey Rookie of the Year. The forward was also named to the league’s first-team after helping Anna Maria win the conference title. Dalbec had the game winning goal in a 4-2 victory over Elms College and was named to the all-tournament team.
