NEWARK, N.J. – Aaron Cosby scored 19 points and Fuquan Edwin finished with 15 as Seton Hall never trailed in a 76-49 men’s basketball win over Maine on Wednesday night.
Seton Hall (4-1), meeting Maine (0-4) for the first time, improved its record against America East Conference opponents to 13-1, and hasn’t lost to an America East squad since 1963.
Seton Hall took a 31-20 lead into halftime, led by Edwin’s 10 points.
Black Bears guard Justin Edwards led all scorers in the first half with 14 points and finished with 18.
(6) SYRACUSE 73, PRINCETON 53: James Southerland scored a career-high 22 points and nabbed five steals, and Michael Carter-Williams added 10 points and nine assists as Syracuse won at home.
The Orange (3-0) won a 24th straight game in the Carrier Dome and boosted their record to 31-0 against the Ivy League in the Dome.
(9) NORTH CAROLINA 112, CHAMINADE 70: James Michael McAdoo scored 18 points to lead five North Carolina players in double figures in the Maui Invitational at Lahaina, Hawaii.
It was the first time this season that the Tar Heels (5-1) have topped the century mark.
(8) KENTUCKY 81, MOREHEAD STATE 70: Archie Goodwin scored a career-high 28 points and Alex Poythress added 20 to help the Wildcats (3-1) rally at Lexington, Ky.
Julius Mays had 11 points, and freshmen Nerlens Noel and Kyle Wiltjer each had nine.
VERMONT 65, YALE 52: Candon Rusin scored 18 points and Brian Voelkel had 12 rebounds as the Catamounts (3-1) won their home opener.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
(10) MARYLAND 94, AMERICAN 54: Tianna Hawkins had 25 points and nine rebounds, Malina Howard added 17 and Alicia DeVaughn 14 to help the Terrapins at College Park, Md.
It was the first game for Maryland (3-1) since a 50-49 upset loss at St. Joseph’s on Saturday.
(18) ST. JOHN’S 71, IONA 55: Shenneika Smith scored 21 points and Nadirah McKenith added 17 to help St. John’s (3-1) win at New York.
FOOTBALL
THE NCAA was “malicious” in its investigation of a former University of Southern California assistant football coach who was linked in a report to a scandal surrounding Heisman Trophy-winning tailback Reggie Bush, a judge said.
The NCAA’s report on ethical breaches by Todd McNair was flawed, and the former coach has shown a probability he can win his defamation claims, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Frederick Shaller said.
