PORTLAND — A Portland man who was convicted of indecency with a child in Texas in 1988 and failed to register as a sex offender when he moved to Maine in 2009 was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court to serve 15 months in prison.

Darrell Lee Roath, 43, pleaded guilty to the charge on Aug. 29 and had acknowledged when questioned by investigators in December 2011 that he hadn’t registered as required, the office of U.S. Attorney Thomas Delahanty II said in a press release.

Judge Nancy Torreson also sentenced Roath to five years of supervised release after he serves the 15 months.

The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Scarborough Police Department.
