MALDEN, Mass. – Daniel Weiniger and John McGinnis each had a goal and an assist as the Bowdoin men’s hockey team used three unanswered second-period goals to come away with a 5-3 victory against Tufts on Friday night.

Tufts dropped to 1-3-1 in NESCAC and 3-4-1 overall.

Ollie Koo broke a 2-2 tie at 2:12 of the second, and Weiniger and Toczylowski added goals at 9:20 and 10:00 for the Polar Bears (8-0-1, 4-0-1 NESCAC).

SOUTHERN MAINE 7, SUNY-POTSDAM 3: Troy Thibodeau had a had trick to power the Huskies (5-5) past the Bears (4-7) at Gorham.

Zach Dymack put the Huskies on the board early with one of Ryan Seward’s four assists. Angelo Vrachnas, David Nies and Garrett White added goals while Josh Hillegas finished with 29 saves in net.

CONNECTICUT COLLEGE 7, COLBY 2: The Camels (2-4-1, 1-3-1 NESCAC) scored four straight goals, including two short-handed, en route to a victory over the Mules (1-7 0-5) at New London, Conn.

Ray Zeke and Jonathan Sdao had goals for Colby.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

SOUTHERN MAINE 2, TRINITY 1: Brittany Soar netted the winner 8:13 into the final period to lift the Huskies (3-3-2) over the Bantams (3-2-2) in a nonconference game at Gorham.

Maggie Lane started the scoring for the Huskies 5:37 into the first while goalie Jenn Fuller had 20 saves.

BOWDOIN 4, HOLY CROSS 1: Kim Tess-Wynat had a goal and two assists as the Polar Bears (4-1) defeated the Crusaders (7-5-1) at Brunswick.

Madeline Lane, Stephanie Ludy, and Rachel Kennedy also scored for Bowdoin.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

BOWDOIN 64, COLBY 58: Keegan Pieri scored 22 points to lead the Polar Bears (5-2) to a victory over the Mules (2-5) at Morrell Gymnasium in Brunswick.

Bryan Hurley helped out with 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Polar Bears.

Andrew Madlinger and Maximilian Staiger both were in double figures with 10 points each.

Colby’s scoring leader was Sam Willson, who came off the bench to contribute 17 points.

MEN’S SOCCER

GEORGETOWN goalkeeper Tomas Gomez blocked Helge Leikvang’s shot in the final round of a shootout, lifting the Hoyas over Maryland 4-3 on penalty kicks after a 4-4 tie in the NCAA soccer semifinals at Hoover, Ala.

Georgetown (20-3-2) beat Maryland (20-2-2) for the first time in 29 tries and will play Indiana in the 2 p.m. final on Sunday.

In the second semifinal game at Hoover, Ala., Femi Hollinger-Janzen scored midway through the first half as the Hoosiers held off Creighton (17-4-3) in a 1-0 game.

Indiana (15-5-3) has won seven national championships.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

(7) KENTUCKY 96, DEPAUL 64: DeNesha Stallworth had 17 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Wildcts (7-1) to a win at Lexington, Ky.

Stallworth, a junior transfer, passed 1,000 career points while recording her second double-double this season.

FOOTBALL

TENNESSEE: New coach Butch Jones, 44, was introduced at a news conference and said the team “will be a champion in everything we do.”

Jones owns a 50-27 record in six seasons.

He was 27-13 in three seasons at Central Michigan, and 23-14 at Cincinnati the last three years, as he looks to rebuild a former SEC power that has posted three consecutive losing seasons.
