BIDDEFORD – Beth Suggs and Kelly Coleman combined for 31 points and 24 rebounds, and the University of New England pulled away late for a 68-57 win over St. Joseph’s in a women’s basketball game Saturday.

UNE (5-3) has won the last nine meetings between the two teams.

Coleman finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Suggs had 14 points and 14 rebounds.

UNE, leading 55-51 with just over five minutes remaining, scored seven consecutive points over a 1:45 span to break it open.

Danyelle Shufelt led St. Joseph’s with 20 points. Morgan Cahill chipped in 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Lindsay Moore scored 10 points.

SOUTHERN MAINE 60, WESTERN CONNECTICUT STATE 55: Jordan Grant scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead Huskies (8-0, 2-0 Little East) over the Colonials (6-2, 1-1) in Gorham.

Rebecca Knight added 17 points for the Huskies. Grant sank a pair of free throws to put USM ahead 54-53, Knight scored off a steal by Taylor Flood, and Nicole Garland snagged a defensive rebound and hit two free throws.

BATES 62, COLBY 49: Chelsea Nason led a balanced attack with 15 points as the Bobcats (5-5) defeated the Mules (4-4) in a nonconference matchup at Lewiston.

Diana Manduca led Colby with 14 points.

SMCC 65, EMCC 40: Esther Palmieri scored 13 points, and Rogetta Donalson and Emily Bard had 12 each as the Seawolves (9-2, 5-1 YSCC) won at South Portland.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

USM 92, WESTERN CONNECTICUT STATE 80: Connor Sullivan scored 18 points and Alex Kee had 17 to lead the Huskies (5-2, 2-0 Little East) past the Colonials (1-7, 0-2) at Gorham.

Southern Maine also got 13 points from James Odneal and 12 from Brandon Tomah.

BATES 67, COLBY 57: Luke Matarazzo scored 20 of his 27 points in the second half, rallying the Bobcats (4-5) from a 15-point halftime deficit against the Mules (2-6) in Lewiston.

Graham Safford and Mark Brust scored 10 points apiece in the second half as the Bobcats outscored the Mules 46-21.

Chris Hudnut led Colby with 13 points. Connor O’Neil added 12.

ST. JOSEPH’S 75, EMERSON 53: Nich Jobin scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Monks (5-2, 2-1 GNAC) cruised past the Lions (4-4, 2-1) in Boston.

Steve Simonds finished with 16 points, Matthew Medeiros scored 15 and Zach Blodgett had 14.

MEN’S HOCKEY

BOSTON UNIVERSITY 1, MAINE 0: Garrett Noonan’s goal 7:13 into the game stood up as the Terriers (10-5, 8-4 Hockey East) blanked the Black Bears (2-11-2, 1-7-2) at Boston.

Sean Maguire made 28 saves for BU. Maine’s Martin Ouellette stopped 20 shots, including a penalty shot in the second period.

BOWDOIN 7, CONN. COLLEGE 1: John McGinnis scored two goals for the Polar Bears (9-0-1, 5-0-1 NESCAC) in a rout of the Camels (2-5-1, 1-4-1) at New London, Conn.

Danny Palumbo, Harry Matheson and Colin Downey each had a goal and an assist, and Max Fenkell made 27 saves.

COLBY 5, TUFTS 2: Sam Parker made 38 saves, including 15 in the second period, and Cory McGrath scored twice for the Mules (2-7, 1-5 NESCAC) against the Jumbos (3-5-1, 1-4-1) at Malden, Mass.

POTSDAM STATE 10, SOUTHERN MAINE 4: Troy Thibodeau, Daniel Mattsson, Stephen Gallo and Alex Pompeo scored for the Huskies (5-6) in a loss to Potsdam (5-7) at Gorham.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

DARTMOUTH 6, MAINE 1: Camille Dumais had three goals and an assist, and Reagan Fischer added two goals and two assists as the Big Green (5-4-2) handled the Black Bears (2-11-1) at Orono.

Brittany Dougherty scored late in the third period and Brittany Ott stopped 55 shots for the Black Bears.

NORWICH 1, BOWDOIN 1: Tori Charron scored for the Cadets (6-1-3) with 1:46 left in regulation in a tie against Bowdoin (4-1-1) at Brunswick.

Stephanie Ludy scored a power-play goal and Kayla Lessard made 36 saves for the Polar Bears.

TRINITY 2, SOUTHERN MAINE 2: Katelyn Ladd’s goal early in the third period helped the Huskies (3-3-3) tie the Bantams (3-2-3) at Gorham.

Brittany Soar scored in the first period for USM, and Jenn Fuller finished with 29 saves.

STEVENSON 3, UNE 1: Samantha Scobee stopped 37 shots and Jenni Poulin scored for the Nor’easters (0-6) in a loss to the Mustangs (4-3) at Biddeford.

COLBY 3, SALVE REGINA 2: Maddie Dewhirst scored two goals and set up the winner as the Mules (4-5) edged the Seahawks at Newport, R.I.
