GORHAM — Alex Kee scored 17 points and the University of Southern Maine won its third straight men’s basketball game, 69-52 over the University of Maine-Farmington Tuesday night at Hill Gymnasium.

Despite shooting 11 of 35 from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, the Huskies (6-2) closed the first half with a 7-0 run for a 30-21 lead.

The Beavers (7-2), who broke a four-game win streak, opened the second half with consecutive baskets from Ben Johnson, but Brandon Tomah made two 3-pointers to get the lead to 11, 36-25.

UMF got as close as seven midway through the half, but the Huskies rallied 10-2 in the final minutes.

Tomah tallied 16 points for the Huskies, and Johnson finished with 19 points with seven rebounds for the Beavers.

(3) MICHIGAN 67, BINGHAMTON 39: Trey Burke scored 19 points and freshman Nik Stauskas added 12 to lead the host Wolverines (10-0) past the Bearcats (2-9). The Wolverines are off to their best start since their national title season of 1988-89.

Jordan Reed scored 11 points and was Binghamton’s only player in double figures. He also had eight rebounds.

The Wolverines were favored by 37.5 points, but they got off to a slow start, allowing the Bearcats to match them in the early going. Rayner Moquete’s 3-pointer off a Michigan turnover put Binghamton up by two, but the lead was short lived.

Tim Hardaway Jr.’s three-point play 23 seconds later put the Wolverines back ahead, and Stauskas and Hardaway made it 21-12 with back-to-back 3-pointers.

Reed gave the Bearcats a brief highlight, dunking back a missed shot to make it 27-14, but Michigan scored the last seven points of the half, capped by Burke’s 3 from near the top of the key in the final seconds.

Burke made an alert play in the second half when his pass toward Jordan Morgan was deflected up off the backboard. The ball bounced all the way back to Burke on the perimeter, and the Michigan point guard then drove for an easy bank shot and a 52-27 lead.

Rashid Gaston scored 12 points and Pendarvis Williams added 11 for Norfolk State (6-6), which led for much of the first half.

Richardson left late in the first half with a badly bruised shoulder but returned. His layup with just under two minutes remaining put the Illini up 56-51 and they held on for the win.
