PORTLAND – Reserve Mohammed Suja scored 18 points, including three 3-pointers, to help Waynflete pull away to a 65-54 victory against Lake Region in a Western Maine Conference schoolboy basketball game Thursday night.

Jack Cutler chipped in with 12 points and Max Belleau scored 10 for Waynflete (3-0).

Mike Triglione scored 16 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead Lake Region (1-2).

WELLS 71, YARMOUTH 65: Dylan Stevens had 38 points and 12 rebounds to power the Warriors (2-1) to a come-from-behind victory against the Clippers (2-1) at Wells.

Trailing 40-28 at the half, Wells made defensive adjustments, moving to a full-court press to hold Yarmouth to 25 points in the second half, while Stevens scored 21 and went six of eight from the line after halftime.

Jake Moody added 19 points for Wells. David Murphy scored 16 to lead Yarmouth.

YORK 72, POLAND 39: Aaron Todd, Luke Claflin and Adam Bailey each scored 12 points as the Wildcats (3-0) beat the Knights (0-3) at York.

Zach Leal and Nicholas Darby added eight points apiece for York, which took a 32-5 first-quarter lead.

Derek Michaud paced Poland with 15 points.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH 57, TRAIP ACADEMY 45: Anthony Langella-Laws racked up 19 points, 11 in the fourth quarter, to power the Seagulls (2-1) past the Rangers (1-2) at Old Orchard Beach.

Joe Gildard put in 14 points and Quincy Grace scored 13 for the Seagulls.

Atencio Martin had 17 points for Traip.

NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 47, SACOPEE VALLEY 37: Colby Bate had 13 points as the Panthers (1-2) downed the Hawks (0-3) at South Hiram.

Ryan Hemenway added nine points for NYA, which used a 10-0 run in the third quarter to pull away.

Alex Fenderson paced the Hawks with 17 points.

FOREST HILLS 85, PINE TREE ACADEMY 27: Tanner Daigle scored 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead the Tigers (4-0) over the Breakers (1-3) at Jackman.

Evan Worster scored 18 points for the Tigers. Brandon Ouellette (15 points), Matt Turner (14) and Ryan Petrin (11) also reached double figures.

Zach Wilday led Pine Tree with 14 points.

DEERING 80, MASSABESIC 40: Labson Abwoch scored a game-high 22 points for the Rams (3-0) against the Mustangs (0-3) at Waterboro.

Dominic Lature added 11 points for Deering, which led 19-5 after the first quarter.

Cale Thornton paced Massabesic with 10 points.

HOCKEY

PORTLAND 4, KENNEBUNK 2: Caleb Fraser scored the go-ahead goal 5:47 into the third period and Mike Fuller clinched it less than two minutes later as the Bulldogs (1-1) pulled away from the Rams (0-2) at Portland.

Trailing 1-0, Portland pulled ahead midway through the second when Luigi Grimaldi and Zach Luce scored just over a minute apart. Boden Beveridge of Kennebunk made it 2-2 just 20 seconds later.

CHEVERUS 7, YORK 2: James Hannigan, Cameron McLain and Conor Ryle each scored twice as the Stags (2-0) handled the Wildcats (2-1) at Portland.

Cheverus scored twice in the final minute of the second period: McLain broke a 2-2 tie with 48 seconds left and Ryle added a goal with nine seconds remaining.

YARMOUTH 2, CAPE ELIZABETH 2: Isaak Dearden and Kevin Haley each scored from Mark Brown as the Clippers (0-1-1) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the Capers (0-1-1) at Portland.

Curtis Guimond opened the scoring for the Capers from Bob Breed with 1:46 left in the first period. Breed extended the lead with a short-handed goal 7:49 into the second.
