SKOWHEGAN — Robert Nelson, the man charged with the murder of Everett L. Cameron in Anson three years ago, was found guilty this morning in Somerset County Superior Court.

Superior Court Justice John Nivison, who decided the case in the jury-waived trial, said that the state’s circumstantial evidence against Nelson was sufficient.

“Mr. Nelson had the means and the motive to kill Mr. Cameron and the state has proven beyond reasonable doubt his guilt,” he said.

Cameron, 60, was found dead on Oct. 31, 2009, with a gunshot wound to the head in his pickup truck on Town Farm Road in Anson.

“My father was a very good man. Everything was taken from me the day he died. My father was my best friend and my son also lost his grandfather,” Everett J. Cameron Sr. said outside the court room.

Nelson, 41, waived his right to a jury trial. He testified that he met Cameron that day but didn’t shoot him. He said he met Cameron to tell him he couldn’t repay money he owed him for prescription drugs that Cameron had sold him.

Prosecutors said Nelson was buying painkillers that Cameron was taking for treatment of lymphoma.
