SALEM, N.H. — While news of the fatal shooting of 26 people at a Connecticut school has many people calling for tighter gun control laws, the New Hampshire town of Salem is looking to repeal its year-old firearms ban at Town Hall.
Human resources Director Molly McKean proposed eliminating a section of the town’s personnel policy that prohibits municipal employees from bringing weapons into the building.
She addressed selectmen Monday, days after Adam Lanza fatally shot his mother at their home in Newtown, Conn., before killing 20 children and six teachers and administrators at an elementary school. He then killed himself.
The Eagle-Tribune reports McKean said the ban violates a state law that allows people to carry firearms in public places, including the New Hampshire Statehouse.
A hearing was scheduled for January.
